How the microbiome is influenced by the therapy of urological diseases: Standard vs. alternative approaches?

Industry workshop by BIONORICA SE

  • Location:
    Room 11 (ICM, Level 1)
  • Chair:

  • Aims and objectives of this session

The microbiome seems to influence a significant number of diseases in different medical disciplines. The new view on the role of the microbiome is causing a paradigm shift in therapy for urological diseases as well: for example, the use of antibiotics in asymptomatic cystitis with bacteriuria may result in a downregulation of the present flora which is a protection against relapses and the risk of urinary stones is significantly elevated if Oxalobacter formigenes is eliminated by antibiotic treatment.
The microbiome is therefore rightly regarded as a “super-organ”, also in urology.
